On Monday AM Miss B and I hit the road for the big city at 6:30... she tagged along with me to the audiologist as my emotional support :) Back story in 2017 Minnie was at school and Miss B and I went to my first audiology appointment. I thought my ears were blocked. They did the full hearing test so I went into the little room with the glass window and my 4 year old sat right outside the door (less than 2 feet from me but I was in a soundproof room) and they began the test. I was completely fine until the woman on the other side of the glass put a piece of paper in front of her face and continued to talk. I couldn't hear anything because I couldn't read her lips. I burst into tears in that little room and when she finally opened the door the first thing my sensitive Miss B saw was a very upset Momma...
Fast forward a couple of years... Husband came with me...same woman... not very kind... said to Husband she needs the hearing aids but this is not a decision you can make for her. She has to do it on her own. Um... excuse me... sitting here!
Fast forward to 2020... everyone in masks. Nuff said?
Fast forward to this fall...the things I THOUGHT I heard vs. what my gals were ACTUALLY saying... while comedic... was frustrating for my family. It's a very lonely thing to not be able to be a part of jokes, hear group conversations in bleachers and miss things at work. Miss B started singing a song about "all I want for Christmas is my Mom to get hearing aids"... YIKES.
So I bit the bullet and made an appointment with my PCP to get yet ANOTHER referral because there was no way I was going back to the same place...I asked my "teacher of the deaf" and she suggested her favorite place of audiologists in the big city... they surprisingly had an opening on Monday at 7:30... hence the 6:30 leave time and not having to leave my principal for too long without any office staff....
Miss B did not know what she was in for (and in fact missed the memo that we were headed to the big city) but she was so sweet to go with me... albeit getting out of social studies and math class were big motivators :) We found our way to the shady side of Commercial street and had the NICEST receptionist and 22 year old audiologist. Ok. Maybe he wasn't 22 but DEF. younger than Do-Do.
I failed miserably as expected so he went through my "options" with us... and I let this pretty girl pick the color... beige, beige, beige or grey. She picked "champagne" :) of.course.she.did. Husband and I are going to chat through the options and we'll see where it goes. But so very VERY thankful for Miss B.
To finish off Monday night Miss B and I had hair appointments... that started at 3:30 and didn't have us home until after 8! Phew it took a long time to get us prettied up!
Tuesday after school I ran home to grab the girls so they could come to our Family Night at school to volunteer. The hours counted for 3 outta 5 of these girls... and they did a GREAT job with all the tiny people they worked with at their literacy and numeracy stations!! So proud! I came into work on Wednesday and MULTIPLE staff came up to tell me what a great job my girls did and how BEAUTIFUL they both are!!! *BLUSH*
Looking forward to a slower couple of days during our "time off"... phew it was a busy start to the week!
