Here comes the bball....

On Minnie's bday she had her FIRST 7th grade aka school... aka SCORE BOARD IS OFFICIALLY LIT... basketball game! Hooray for #2!

It took a fair amount of coordinating... my friend Michelle picked up Miss B at school on her way to the game, Dayna let out Barks and I asked Marisa if I could leave a little early and I made it in time for tip off! It was a great game, they had a big lead but then it turned into a nail biter at the end...

Thank goodness they pulled off the win....

And speaking of "win" the AD did not bring a score book for them so he threw a used one on the table... Husband said "no thanks" and went into his file cabinet to get one of his OWN.... wowzers this was a while ago... :) but here comes Coach Carbone on the basketball court again....YIIPEEE 😍

The Birthday

On Friday after Thanksgiving we celebrated Minnie... she wanted the Penney gals and Bella for cookies and bowling but we couldn't get into the place we wanted to so Kobe it was....

Getting ready for the fun and trying to figure out WHY they would serve clear soup with mushrooms floating in it... YUMMY :)

Thankful that things went so much better than the last time she was at Kobe... hee hee poor sweet girl...

Hated every single second of it...

It was a WHOLE different experience for her 10ish years later... I'm so glad! :)

Miss B HATED the food (ok she loved the steak but didn't eat anything else) but had so much fun watching everything she wants to go back for HER birthday... um... probably not :)

We surprised her with the waitstaff singing and her own ice cream... we came home for whoopie pies and sleepovers and she loved it ALL!
CANNOT BELIEVE this beauty queen is 13!!!! Man did we get blessed!

OFFICIALLY A TEENAGER

I'm not sure who approved this but I'm NOT OK with it... remember I'm the one that hates change, never wants them to grow up and once they started sleeping through the night they could have just STAYED that age... but alas... time is a thief and here we are... THIRTEEN!

I have been reminiscing back here and here and also here because this was the start of her school career and MAN the time starts FLYING

Minnie you are nothing short of AMAZING... We all love you so much and as much as I AM SO SAD you are not still in a 5 point harness
I am having so much fun getting to know the TEENAGER God has planned for you to be!

You are a leader and we get rave reviews about your behavior and what kind of friend you are to EVERYONE at school AND THAT is the stuff we most care about... just be KIND.

These next several years could get tricky but just remember who you are, WHO LOVES YOU and that we are HERE.FOR.IT.

Sweet girl... thank you for making me a Momma... you will never know how much you are loved. Happy Birthday Minnie.

ALL the Dogs

One of our kitchen ladies breeds Cane Corsos aka Italian Mastiffs aka what we are PRETTY sure this guy was "part". She brought in these 5 week old little loves at the end of the day last week and to say that we all went crazy would be an understatement. We have a building FULL of dog lovers and when you bring in a PUPPY!!!

I was of course partial to the black male... he'll end up being brindle but SO SO cute...

of course when I got home this guy was ALL OVER ME... and speaking of "all over"...

He is NOT allowed on the furniture but lately that is his new game... jump up next to Miss B and quickly flip on his back so it makes it hard to get him off... on Sunday when Husband sat down he thought maybe if he crawled nice and quiet he wouldn't be noticed...

3 legs up....

just a little kiss....

and then all FOUR PAWS but "technically" he wasn't ON the couch :) oh Barkley!

"Local Crisis"

*This is only for my own documentation... what my kids are living through and how we are navigating challenging situations. My experience was far "less" than SIL L  as she navigated the high school and voc kids and certainly people that live in the town next door and students/staff that were in the building.*

On Tuesday morning I was outside doing arrival duty as Marisa was in a meeting. When I came inside my RN said there was an active shooter at the high school in the town next door with tears in her eyes. The school that my dear friend Lynne is the school RN... original reports were that it was "mass casualty" and that 5 people had been shot... in that moment... when those were the things being "reported" it was all VERY REAL. I tracked down Marisa, grabbed her walkie talkie and her cellphone and our school went into a "hold in place". That is minimal movement throughout the school, classroom doors are shut, kids are wherever they are for the duration of the hold in place.

We frantically searched for more information, and my phone began ringing off the hook. I texted Lynne asking if she was safe and she said she was and to "please pray". Terrified doesn't begin to describe the emotions while keeping things calm and assuring parents that their babies were safe and we would rather they DIDN'T pick up their children to keep people off our campus but they could if they needed to.

Miss B was supposed to go on a field trip that morning, leaving at 9 and I could see her teacher on her chat message so I knew they had not left. The hold in place was across our district while we waited for further instruction from our central office.

It wasn't until 10:24 that we got word that the threat was not "real". By that time the SWAT teams had made their way through the high school, various local law enforcement and life flight was told to stand down.

Husband was supposed to pick up Miss B but I went straight to her when I left work for the day. She got in my car and immediately BURST into tears. I knew she would be disappointed about missing the field trip but she was so angry because they were told it was a "practice" hold in place. While I in COMPLETE agreement that no child should have been spoken to about what happened by anyone other than their parents I was SO UPSET to know the truth and that wasn't it. 5th graders are not dumb. They could NOT understand how a PRACTICE hold in place would trump a field trip. She had a few other disappointments that day and we chatted about what had really happened and had lots of hugs.

I made her favorite dinner and she snuggled up on the couch with White Christmas :)

It was such a traumatizing day for SO MANY and could have been SO much worse if it was the real thing but for what those kiddos and staff went through.... TRAUMA. TERROR. Not OK. And for that day... it WAS the worst.

The Weekend Report ~ Mostly Miss B

We had Friday off for Veterans Day. The gals made cards for Ray Ray to thank him for his service...

MC snagged a riding lesson where the sketchy man sitting at the end of his driveway spooked the horse but the giant dump truck did not.

We "stole" these two for a quick visit and dinner out....

and this guy living his best post-bath life...

On Saturday Miss B had a birthday party for Skylar from the Barn and I NEVER mind the drive to the town it was in....

Especially when this one keeps me company while her sister is....

Hanging around :)

The gals both went back to have cupcakes and open gifts

We came home and Husband made BLT's for everyone ELSE but this one wanted venison....bleck.

We NEVER decorate before Minnie's birthday... ever. Never. But Miss B was dying for the lights and to haul out the nativity and since the weather was yucky and she's cute....

In process....

We did everything except the tree....

and look how happy she is... course eating ice cream in bed watching MY TV with HER CAT ALWAYS makes her happy no matter WHAT season it is :)
A very FULL and fun weekend for us all but ESPECIALLY for Miss B
